A Westchester-based community chorus under the professional
direction of Eugene Sirotkine, Assistant Conductor of the Metropolitan
Opera
The
Hudson Valley Singers gave their debut concert on March 15, 1951, at the
Graham School in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. The group has been in existence
continuously since that time, performing choral music of the 17th through
20th centuries.
The
group's objectives have always been to contribute to the cultural life
of the community through our public performances and to provide our amateur
choral singers with professional instruction.
In the past two years we organized optional concert tours to Budapest and Costa Rica, each of which was wonderously well-received and incredibly fun.
In1998,
Eugene Sirotkine joined the Hudson Valley Singers
as Music Director and brought a very special vitality and enthusiasm to
the group.
Eugene:
When I told the Met chorus that I was doing Gira la cote
from Puccinis Turandot with my Hudson Valley Chorus, they were
amazed that an amateur ensemble would attempt a piece even they find
challenging. It was truly marvelous.
Carol (alto):
Weve all grown so much as musicians since Eugene took
the helm here. Performing some of the the finest choral
music ever written with world-class soloists
is a feeling I cant even begin
to describe.
Would
you like to sing with us?
Would you like to sing with us this season? The January 2011 concerts will be a cappella performances of pieces by Victoria, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Verdi, Debussy and Poulenc.
Formal auditions are not required, but singers are expected
to prepare on their own between rehearsals. We
welcome experienced singers in all voice parts. High school and college students,
too.
We rehearse Wednesdays 7:30pm
at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry. Scores, practice CDs and diction sheets are available.
